After getting her first break as a teenager singing in early Brasilian musical TV shows like the "Ary Barroso" show, and thereafter enjoying 50 years of success with the likes of Bossa Nova greats like João Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Milton Nascimento, and Johnny Alf, Alaíde Costa is well-know and respected in Brasil for her masterful artistic delivery and signature voice. This track also features pianist Gilson Peranzzetta, whom Quincy Jones has termed "one of the five biggest arrangers of the world".

Futricando

Renacença Samba Clube

This track is a homage to Rio de Janeiro's legendary "Mangueira" Carnaval Samba school (the school for whom the legendary Jamelão has been the parade singer since the 1940's), played live in a Pagode format (Samba sung in a public hall with large numbers of public participants sitting at tables and drinking beer and eating) by many of Rio's well-known Samba musicians. These live Pagode sessions at Clube Renascença, a 1950's-era Afro-Brasilian bar in Rio's Vila Isabel neighborhood, started out as an informal get together of Samba musicians on their day off, and have since become somewhat of an institution in Rio, occurring every monday night with over 2,000 members of the public coming to sing along with their favorite Samba musicians.

These are two tracks by well-known Bossa Nova artist and composer Sergio Augusto who, since getting his start in legendary Bossa Nova bars such as João Sebastião Bar and Cambridge Bar, for over 40 years has been a member of the "old guard" of São Paulo Bossa Nova, along with names such as Zimbo Trio, Claudette Soares, Paulinho Nogueira, Os Três Moraes, Johnny Alf, Alaíde Costa, and Maricenne Costa. These tracks come from the soundtrack album for the film "Ginga - A Alma do Futebol Brasileiro" ("Ginga - The Soul Of Brasilian Football") --- a documentary from O2 Films (the same production company which released the acclaimed film "Cidade de Deus" ("City of God") in 2002) which follows the life stories of 10 football players from various parts of Brasil, including Robinho. Turma do Pagode

The following three tracks are a great example of traditional Pagode --- a form of group-participation samba popular in Brasil.
